WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced the schedule for the 24th Annual Emerson Farm Tour. The Farm Tour tradition, begun by U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson, is an annual listening tour and a chance for hands-on learning about various agricultural activities in the Eighth Congressional District.
“I’m thrilled to embark on the 24th Annual Farm Tour this year. It is so refreshing to spend a whole week talking with our farmers and ranchers about the issues that matter most to them. Exchanging ideas face-to-face with the hardworking people of the district is the best part of my job,” Emerson said. “Between Country of Origin Labeling, reopening our beef export market to Japan, and preparing for reauthorization of the Farm Bill, we have many pressing issues to discuss.”
Emerson’s special guest for this year’s Farm Tour is Representative Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, the Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.
“Having Chairman Goodlatte as our guest is a real privilege for the farmers and ranchers of the Eighth District. He is an integral player in the major agricultural issues facing our nation and, like me, he really cares about what is happening on the farms and ranches of rural America,” Emerson said. “I’m proud to give him a warm Missouri welcome and to introduce him to the agricultural community of Southern Missouri.”
Goodlatte will join Emerson at a one-day roundtable on Friday, August 5, 11:00 a.m. at the Delta Center for a 90-minute roundtable discussion with the Missouri Farm Bureau, the American Soybean Association, the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, the USA Rice Federation, the Missouri Corn Growers Association, Missouri Cotton Council, Missouri Rice Council and the Delta Center Advisory Board.
For directions to any event, please contact Josh Haynes in Emerson’s Cape Girardeau office at (573) 335-0101.
