WASHINGTON - “I have been informed and I am greatly dismayed that, having moved huge amounts of resources back to the Frederick Street location to reopen the Old Post Office with limited repairs, I have found out the USPS is not going to invest in renovations continually promised to the people of Cape Girardeau. Still, this may be good news in disguise, because we have the opportunity to follow through on a retail postal location, staffed by USPS personnel on the west side of Cape. I urge the USPS to now find a location for a full size, stand-alone post office, while continuing to proceed on the Frederick Street facility.”
“The USPS needs to be accountable for the promises they have made and the decisions they have shared with the congressional delegation and city officials. We’ve demonstrated the need for improved postal services in our community time and time again. It is long past time for action that will bring Cape Girardeau up to par with other cities similar to us in population and area.”
