WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will host a listening session with area producers at the Clinton Building in Sikeston on Monday, February 13 at the Clinton Building. The session will begin at 9:30 and will last to 11:30. Emerson wants to hear ideas and reactions from local producers to Farm Bill programs, which are due to be reauthorized next year.
“The Farm Bill contains important policies that directly affect our farmers and ranchers here in Southern Missouri. This law secures our safe and reliable food supply, helps fight hunger at home and around the world, provides a safety net for producers and their families, and holds the key to the production of alternative fuels,” Emerson said. “I look forward to hearing from our farmers and ranchers how the Farm Bill has worked for them over the past few years as well as what we need to change for the future. Theirs are important stories which I can take with me to Washington to help make our case in Congress.”
Joining Emerson at the listening session will be Fred Ferrell, Missouri Director of the Department of Agriculture and a Southeast Missouri native, who has been an active participant in efforts to promote Missouri agriculture to export markets around the world.
