WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced the 2006 Congressional Art Contest from Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District. The winning artwork will be part of the national exhibition in the U.S. Capitol until May of 2007. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation, and there will be ten honorable mentions in addition to the winning entry. The winning eleven works will be displayed as a part of the Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA) meeting in Cape Girardeau on March 23 on the Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Both MSTA and the University are co-sponsors of the contest.
Entries are due in Emerson’s Cape Girardeau office by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16.
“Having their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol is a high honor for the extremely gifted artists from Southern Missouri who have been selected over the years,” Emerson said.
Last year’s contest featured more than 200 entries from high schools across Southern Missouri. Letters informing Eighth District art teachers of deadlines, guidelines and entry forms were sent to high schools this week. Interested students should talk to their art teachers and make arrangements to submit their work as soon as possible.
