CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced the schedule for her upcoming August Farm Tour of Southern Missouri agricultural producers. The 2006 Farm Tour will begin Monday, August 7 and conclude Friday, August 11.
“I am really looking forward to the 25th annual Emerson Farm Tour. The Farm Tour is a long tradition that has served Missouri’s representatives well by keeping an important dialog open between our producers and their elected representatives. Southern Missouri is home to a wide variety of agricultural producers, and I am proud to represent our hardworking farmers, ranchers, and agriculture businesses,” Emerson said. “The Farm Tour offers a chance for me to see a number of different farm operations and discuss ways to get the most out of our agricultural economy. These discussions are extremely important as the negotiations over the upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization begin.”
Stops on Emerson’s tour include a timber grading course, a visit to a cattle farm, and a review of a grain storage and barge facility.
“It is especially important to me to visit with our producers, researchers, and agri-business leaders one-on-one and see their operations firsthand. Agriculture is vital to our rural economy, and our farms and ranches are a source of great pride,” Emerson said.
Emerson is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture in the U.S. House of Representatives.
