WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will be part of a panel discussion on current legislation affecting health care tomorrow, Friday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. CDT. The forum is being hosted by the Ozarks Medical Center at the Chateau on the Lake in Branson.
“Rural health care issues are extremely important to address at every level of government. A reliable system that meets the needs of rural areas is extremely important to the health of our communities. There are some unique programs and opportunities to ensure that we have access to quality care in every part of our state, and I remain committed to making sure these initiatives have the attention and the funding they need,” Emerson said. “We shouldn’t be depriving any American of access to health care. Instead, we should be attacking the inefficiencies in the delivery system, such as enabling the government to negotiate the price of Medicare prescriptions we buy in bulk or extending student loan forgiveness to medical professionals who elect to serve in rural areas. I’m looking forward to discussing these and other ideas at the symposium in Taney County tomorrow.”
Emerson is past co-chair of the Rural Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives and a leading advocate for health care reforms to lower the cost of prescription drugs and to improve federal programs without compromising care.
