Emerson: South Gate Issue Resolved at Ft. Leonard Wood

WASHINGTON  -  U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) has received notice from the Office of the Commanding General at Fort Leonard Wood that current operating levels will be maintained at all Fort Leonard Wood gates.  The possibility of nighttime closures of the South Gate had sparked concern of residents who work at the installation.

“I’m very glad the gate will remain open, and I commend the concerned citizens, base personnel and local officials for working together to resolve this situation.  The strong relationship our communities share with the Fort makes its presence a true asset to the surrounding communities.  I know restricted nighttime access at the South Gate posed a serious concern, but I also understand the financial element the U.S. Army must consider in structuring base operations.  I will continue to be an advocate in Congress for Fort Leonard Wood and the excellent work conducted there by the U.S. Army, and I remain proud that the Fort is such an integral part of our way of life in Southern Missouri,” said Emerson.
