WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice will award a $16,821 grant to Taney County for the purchase of tasers and dash-mounted radar to aid in law enforcement.
“I have to commend the Department of Justice for recognizing the needs of our first responders in rural parts of Missouri. This assistance will keep the citizens of Taney County safer as well as make the task of law enforcement safer for the hardworking members of our sheriff’s department,” Emerson said. “I’m really proud of Taney County for their success in achieving this federal grant award.”
The funding comes from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which is designed to prevent and control crime, especially crime related to drug manufacturing and trafficking.
In past years, Emerson has successfully fought cuts to the federally-funded Byrne grant program.
“Our law enforcement officers and personnel need every resource as they work to eradicate methamphetamine from our rural communities as well as keep the peace. They put in the extra effort to be prepared for any disaster that might befall our rural communities or our neighbors, and the Byrne program is an important pillar of support,” Emerson said.
