WASHINGTON, DC - Montana's Congressman, Denny Rehberg, met today with the Montana Association of Conservation Districts to discuss resource conservation projects in Montana. Montana currently has 58 conservation districts.
“Montana’s conservation districts are a critical part of the state’s landscape and a huge contributor to our economy,” said Rehberg, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “It’s vital we manage these resources in a way that conserves them for all of their uses including hunting, fishing, ranching, and farming.”
Conservation districts are units of the local government designed to help residents conserve their soil, water, and other renewable natural resources. During the meeting, one of the group’s major concerns was the 2007 Farm Bill. There are currently 20 distinct conservation programs included in the Administration’s proposed Farm Bill for 2007 with an additional $7.8 billion directed towards these programs.
“We’re thankful for the opportunity to discuss conservation issues with Congressman Rehberg,” said Buzz Mattelin, President of the Montana Association of Conservation Districts. “The issue of land and river conservation in Montana is extremely important.”
“Through legislation like the Farm Bill, it’s essential to ensure the needs of Montana’s ag industry and other resource-related fields are addressed,” said Rehberg. “I’ll look forward to continuing my work on these issues.”
