WASHINGTON D.C. - Montana's Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today met with members of the Fort Peck/ Dry Prairie Rural Water Project to discuss the group’s nearly $42 million funding request. The funding will be used for completion of a regional water treatment plant, additional pipelines, and a distribution system on the east and west sides of the project.
“As a strong advocate for Montana’s rural water priorities, I’m in a strategic position this year to work on funding for the Fort Peck/Dry Prairie project,” said Rehberg, a member of the House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee. “This project is a necessity for northeast Montana and I’ll be at the front lines fighting to secure the needed funding.”
The Fort Peck/Dry Prairie Rural Water System was authorized by Congress in 2000 and when completed, it will serve more than 30,000 residents in northeastern Montana and on the Fort Peck Reservation. Last year, Rehberg secured $9.84 million for the project in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill bringing the total funding for the project to nearly $60 million.
“We’d like to thank Congressman Rehberg for his continued hard work on our state’s rural water projects,” said Clint Jacobs, Manager of the Dry Prairie Rural Water System. “We’re excited about his new position and the importance it will have in our ability to secure future funding. It’s clear he has a true passion for bringing clean, drinking water to Montana’s rural communities.” |
