| WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, is offering assistance to Montana firefighters seeking to secure a portion of the $210 million available for fire station construction through a new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding program. DHS’s Assistance to Firefighters Fire Station Construction Grants (FSC) are aimed at helping local fire departments enhance their response capability through new construction, or modifications to existing fire stations.
“This program will provide financial support for vital construction and remodeling projects, which is something most rural and small Montana fire departments have difficulty funding locally,” said Rehberg a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. “These grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, and I encourage every fire department in the state with construction needs to begin the application process.” The program will be administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in coordination with the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program Office. AFG will utilize the grant process currently in place for the various AFG programs. Applications are to be submitted electronically beginning the week of June 8th. The application period runs through July 10, during which time a help desk will be available by calling 1-866-274-0960.
