Rehberg Secures $500,000 in Funding for Montana Meth Project
WASHINGTON, DC - Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today secured $500,000 in funding for the Montana Meth Project in the Commerce, Science, and Justice Appropriations bill.

“Montana Meth has been a critical leader in the spreading the news about the dangers of meth,” said Rehberg, a member of the House Appropriations Committee.  “Through their effective commercials and programs like ‘Paint the State’, Montana Meth has created a message that can be seen on every street corner.  These funds will help them continue the great work they’re doing.”

The Montana Attorney General’s Office issued a report in January of this year titled “Methamphetamine in Montana: A Preliminary Report on Trends and Impact.”  The report found that meth use among teens had dropped 38%, while workplace testing saw a 70% decrease in use of the drug - a greater decline than in any other state. Additionally, meth-related crime dropped a dramatic 53% between 2005 and 2006.

Beginning in 2005, the Meth Project became the largest advertiser in Montana.  The Project targets Montana youth ages 12 -17, and they reach 90% of that target audience three times a week with hard-hitting messaging.  The funds will be used for TV, radio, print and Website development for the Montana Meth Project.

“Congressman Rehberg has always been a tremendous supporter of the Montana Meth Project and we are grateful for his leadership in securing federal support for our program,” said Montana Meth Project Chairman Mike Gulledge.  “The initial progress we have made in addressing the state’s meth problem has been extraordinary, but we need a sustained effort to truly eradicate this epidemic.  Funding from a variety of sources, both public and private, will ensure that the Montana Meth Project will continue for years to come.”

“Montana Meth is a great example of an anti-drug campaign that’s working,” said Rehberg.  “It’s important we continue to use their work as a tool to keep our communities drug-free.”
