McIntyre Announces Over $1.6 Million For Holden Beach Renourishment
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre announced today that Holden Beach has received a $1.6 million federal grant to help renourish its beach.
Congressman McIntyre stated, “Our beaches help drive the local economy, and we need to do all we can to protect this critical investment. These federal funds will help re-place sand lost on Holden Beach from Tropical Strom Hanna. These are our taxpaying dollars coming home to work for our communities and our economy!”
Congress has appropriated, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has approved $1,668,953.28 in federal funds for this project which will replace 191,970 cubic yards of sand for the damaged engineered beach. In addition, 290,536 individual plants will be planted for restored dune revegetation. Total project cost is $2,225,271.04
