    McIntyre Re-Elected To Key Agriculture Subcommittee Chairmanship

    Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre has been re-elected Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Rural Development, Biotechnology, Specialty Crops, and Foreign Agriculture for the 111th Congress.

                “Economic development has always been at the forefront of my work to help Southeastern North Carolina and all of rural America, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue building upon our efforts,” said Representative McIntyre.

                McIntyre recently held a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C. with key rural groups to discuss the upcoming stimulus package.

                He added, “Biotechnology is the cutting edge of the future of agriculture, and I am thrilled that our subcommittee will continue to look at possibilities for this rapidly expanding field.”

                The subcommittee has jurisdiction over tobacco, peanuts, sugar, rural development, farm security and family farming, biotechnology, foreign agricultural assistance, and trade promotion programs.

                McIntyre is a twelve-year veteran of this subcommittee, and in the last Congress he authored the Rural Development title of the Farm Bill.  He also was the author of the  Southeast Regional Commission which will help with jobs, transportation, business development, and infrastructure.  In addition, a new program to help small businesses employing less than ten people, called the Rural Entrepreneur and Microenterprise Assistance Loan Program was emanated from McIntyre’s subcommittee.}
