McIntyre Announces over $5 Million in COPS Funds to Keep Southeastern North Carolina Towns & Cities Safe: 40 Officers to Be Hired or Re-hired
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that our communities’ police departments will receive $5,890,634 million in federal funds to help them fight crime.
These funds have been made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 under the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).
Representative McIntyre stated, “This is great news for the safety of our homes, businesses, and communities! These federal COPS funding dollars will allow for the hiring of new law enforcement officers and also preserve the jobs of the officers currently working whose jobs may have been threatened by local budget cuts.”
These grants, offered through the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) will provide 100 percent funding for approved entry-level salaries and benefits for three years for newly-hired, full-time sworn officer positions or for rehired officers who have been laid off, or are scheduled to be laid off.
Representative McIntyre is a member of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus.
