McIntyre Helps Pass Measure to Reduce Government Waste, Increase Accountability for Spending of Taxpayers’ Money
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre worked with fellow members of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition to pass H. Res. 40 amending the House rules to require standing committees to hold periodic hearings on waste, fraud, and abuse to ensure American taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
Congressman McIntyre stated, “Making sure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely will be a priority in this Congress. This important rule changes ensures that we will have a determined and sustained commitment to fiscal responsibility. The American taxpayer deserves it.”
Specifically, H.Res. 40 requires that each House committee conduct:
· at least one hearing during each 120-day period on the topic of waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in the agencies under the committee’s jurisdiction;
· at least one additional hearing per year if an agency’s auditors issue disclaimers in that agency’s financial report; and
· at least one additional hearing if a program under its jurisdiction is designated as “high risk” by GAO in their high-risk series.
