McIntyre Announces $829,780 for Oak Island Fire and Rescue and $731,680 for New Hanover County Fire Department

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that the Oak Island Fire and Rescue has received $829,780 and the New Hanover County Fire Department has received $731,680 in federal funds for hiring and staffing of firefighters.

Congressman McIntyre stated, “First responders are on the front lines every day protecting our citizens and communities.  These federal funds will help Oak Island Fire and Rescue and New Hanover Fire by providing them the resources to increase their frontline firefighters.  I congratulate all the great folks at both these departments in their work for securing these funds.  Having an adequate number of firefighters is essential to the safety of citizens and communities and to the success of the fire and rescue departments.”

Oak Island and New Hanover received these federal funds, appropriated through Congress and distributed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in this round of grants for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Rescue Emergency Response (SAFER) program.

Congressman McIntyre has been a long time supporter of the federal fire program and has worked repeatedly to increase funds for distribution to our nation’s fire departments.
