| (Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick (NC-9) announced that Matthews-Morningstar Volunteer Fire Department in Matthews, NC, has been awarded a $83,250 grant from the Department of Homeland Security. This was awarded under the Department’s Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program. The funding will be used for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Programs, which include: training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
The Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. These funds are used by the nation’s firefighters to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, fire fighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, emergency medical service programs, and fire prevention and safety programs.
