(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) announced that Defense Technologies, Inc. (DTI), has been awarded a $8,821,262 million Naval Contract. The funding will be used by DTI for basic and applied research leading to the development of a prototype Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV).
“DTI is becoming a recognized and respected name in the defense industry for their high quality research and product development. This contract is one more step toward a more developed defense cluster in our area,” said Rep. Myrick.
“It is an honor to be awarded this opportunity by our Navy. Being able to develop vehicles that will strengthen our homeland defenses and protect our men and women in the military is DTI’s core task. Congresswoman Sue Myrick has taken the point in support of our service men and women while supporting those at home through her tireless assistance in revitalizing our local economies with the technologies of the future. Her efforts are felt state wide. We thank Sue from the bottom of our hearts.” said John Torbett, Vice President of North Carolina DTI operations.
UAV’s can be used for a number of purposes including patrolling US borders and providing important intelligence of defense targets in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Research and production of these UAV’s will be performed in Ranlo, N.C. plant (70 percent) and the Patuxent River, Md. plant (30 percent), and is expected to be completed in June 2008. This contract was competitively procured under a Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Agency Announcement.
