MYRICK ANNOUNCES $154,264 FEDERAL GRANT FOR GASTONIA AND GASTON COUNTY

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick (NC-9) announced that Gastonia and Gaston County have been awarded a $154,264 Federal grant from the Department of Justice.  The grant was issued under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG).  JAG allows local governments to support a range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions.

The City of Gastonia Police Department will use the FY 2005 JAG funding to purchase equipment and training for officers to advance their Problem Oriented Policing implementation efforts.  The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office will use the finding to purchase equipment to enhance critical incident capabilities for the Department.  Funds will also be used for a staff development project and an Inmate Recidivism Reduction Project.
