(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) voted today in support of H.R. 2528, the FY2006 Military Quality of Life Appropriations Act. This bill provides funding for military housing and veterans programs, including veteran healthcare and veteran benefits.
“I voted for this bill because it will ensure that our veterans have access to great medical care. It also makes sure veterans will get the benefits they are entitled to,” said Rep. Myrick.
H.R. 2528 does not contain additional fees as proposed by the President. Congress rejected these proposals in order to ensure veterans are not paying more out-of-pocket healthcare costs. In fact, over the last two years, funding for veterans medical care has increased by 18%, and 40% since 2001.
This bill also increases veteran benefits by $1.5 billion over last year. The increased funding will help expand benefits for National Guard and Reserve troops.
Rep. Myrick continued, “Our veterans deserve our support and gratitude for all they have done. The least we can do is make sure they get the care and benefits America owes them.”
