(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Representative Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) will deliver the weekly CBC "Message to America" radio address this Saturday, January 14, 2006.  Representative Brown will discuss the advantages of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a special credit to boost the incomes of working families.

The CBC "Message to America" is distributed nationwide to the American Urban Radio Network's (AURN) affiliate stations.

Representative Brown is expected to deliver the following remarks:

“Hello.  This is Roshan Hodge on behalf of Congresswoman Corrine Brown of Florida’s Third Congressional District.   Thank you for listening to this week’s CBC Message to America. 

“The Earned Income Tax Credit helps the people who need tax relief the most: hard working Americans who struggle everyday to make ends meet and who have not benefited from the President’s tax cuts for the wealthy. 

“Did you or your spouse have earned income during 2005? Did your household earn between $1 and $37,263? If you answered “yes” to these questions, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. You may also be eligible to receive the Advance Earned Income Tax Credit (AEITC) directly in your paycheck.

“The Earned Income Tax Credit is a special credit to boost the incomes of working families. This credit reduces the amount of income tax you owe, if any, and is intended to offset some of the increases in living expenses and Social Security taxes. To receive this credit, you must meet the eligibility requirements and you must file a tax return.

“Please refer to IRS Publication #596 for a more in-depth explanation of the credit.

“In order to receive the credits you must include your correct Social Security number, as well as the correct Social Security numbers of your children.  Many of you listening out there may very well qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.  It is our sincere desire that all who do qualify take full advantage of this valuable tax credit.
