(Washington, D.C.)- {U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chair, Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute (CBC Institute), in partnership with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), will host a conference call with press on Wednesday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) to kick-off its National Constituent Outreach Tour, an initiative to educate the public about closing disparities and creating opportunities for African Americans. The tour, “Bringing Congress to the People,” will begin in Jackson, Mississippi on Tuesday, August 9, with a town hall meeting at Jackson State University to highlight the growing list of disparities which plague the African American community, focusing on healthcare, retirement security and affordable housing. The tour will also stop in Belzoni, Yazoo City, Isola and Greenwood, Mississippi. On Friday, August 19, CBC members will also host an education hearing in Charlotte, N.C. to discuss disparities in education. In addition to Representative Thompson, other members participating on the conference call include: U.S. Representatives Melvin L. Watt (D-N.C.), CBC chair; G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.); James Clyburn (D-S.C.) and John Lewis (D-Ga.).
