Pallone Announces Asbury Park Recipient of
Homeland Security Fire Grant

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced Wednesday that the Asbury Park Fire Department in Asbury Park, NJ received $209,475 in funding provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The money will be spent to improve emergency response capabilities by training firefighters and first responders, and purchasing updated protective equipment.

“Fire fighters and first responders deserve the best equipment and training we can provide while they risk their lives to protect us every day,” said Pallone. “I’m glad to see the Asbury Park community benefit from this grant which will better prepare our firefighters for emergency situations and make the community a safer place to live.”

The AFG program is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security and is part of a coordinated effort to improve the nation’s ability to respond to emergency situations.

In Fiscal Year 2009, DHS Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awarded approximately $565 million directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
