PALLONE SECURES $300,000 FOR

LONG BRANCH PIER AND FERRY TERMINAL

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced that the U.S. House of Representatives approved a Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 Transportation and Housing & Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill today that includes his request of $300,000 to complete the design and engineering phase of the Long Branch Pier and Ferry Terminal.

The Long Branch Pier and Ferry Terminal will provide a direct link between the Long Branch region and lower Manhattan and represents a model of sustainable development, alternative transportation and smart growth.

The project will also showcase the $7 billion the government invested to replenish and enhance New Jersey's coastal region.

"During these difficult economic times it is important that we invest in infrastructure projects that will create jobs and improve communities," Pallone said. "The Long Branch Pier and Ferry Terminal will create 1,200 jobs during the construction phase and 600 full-time jobs when operation at the site begins. The project will also boost the tourism market, enhance interstate commerce and attract residential and business investment along the Jersey coast. I commend my colleagues in the House for recognizing the importance of this project."

Pallone requested the funds earlier this year in a formal request to the House Appropriations Transportation and Housing & Urban Development (THUD) Subcommittee.
