Payne Announces Earmark Requests for Fiscal Year 2010
Requests would support economic development, healthcare, and youth development projects.

Washington, D.C. – In an effort to bring more transparency and accountability to the earmark process, Congressman Donald M. Payne released a list of his earmark requests for Fiscal Year 2010, which includes funding for local transportation, health care, youth development projects, and economic development initiatives.  These requests can be found on http://www.house.gov/payne/appropriations_requests.shtml.

“I am pleased to stand behind each and every one of these requests, which will help my constituents in Essex, Union, and Hudson County. The responsible use of federal resources designated for local projects of high public purpose, will have widespread benefits for our communities, our state, and our nation. In submitting such requests, my office seeks to use taxpayer dollars wisely, considering cost-benefit analyses and community support. In preparing for my submissions, I visited many local towns throughout the district to assess their individual needs. My requests include technology upgrades for local law enforcement and funding for hospital expansions. These requests are not “pork” but the bare bone needs of my district and the constituency that I represent,” explained Payne.

Since taking control of Congress in January 2007, Democrats have drastically reformed the earmark process, ensuring accountability every step of the way.
