Tenth District Congressman Donald Payne announced today that Kean University has received a $5.8 million dollar teacher quality enhancement grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The five year grant has been awarded to the University for a partnership to strengthen teacher preparation and improve student achievement.
The Teacher Quality Enhancement program includes partnerships, state and recruitment grants. Kean University has received a partnership grant, which supports projects to increase the number of highly qualified teachers, particularly in core subject areas such as math and science, using research-based teaching methods.
Payne said, “Far too often our educational system is faced with a lack of funding to implement mandatory reforms, such as the No Child Left Behind Act. I will continue to work with the Department of Education and my colleagues to ensure the tenth district receives the necessary funding to improve our children’s education.” |
