| Payne Announces Grant for YouthBuild Newark, Inc. | |||
|
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne today announced that the US Department of Labor has awarded $1,100,000 to YouthBuild Newark, Inc. YouthBuild provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income or homeless families in their communities. In addition to building homes, youths earn their GED or high school diploma, learn to be community leaders and prepare for college and other post-secondary training opportunities. YouthBuild Newark, Inc. has been in existence since 2003 and has worked with hundreds of young Newark residents. "YouthBuild is a proven tool for success for youths in urban communities," stated Payne. "In Newark, it has helped hundreds of youths become involved in their neighborhoods and take an active interest in its safety and betterment. It has allowed so many young people to transform their lives. I’m delighted that we were able to secure funding for this laudable program." ### |
