| Payne Announces $3.5 Million in Transportation Grants | |||||||||||||||

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne was pleased to announce that the US Department of Transportation awarded $3,500,000 in Transportation Enhancement (TE) grants to the cities of Newark, Elizabeth and Jersey City. Due to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Transportation Enhancement grants will create job opportunities for the people of the tenth district of New Jersey as well as make quality-of-life improvements for the community. TE grants will fund such transportation projects as pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and safety programs, landscaping and scenic beautification and environmental mitigation. The cities of Newark, Elizabeth and Jersey City received the following funding:
Payne stated, "Thanks to the economic stimulus package, our congressional district will receive millions of transportation project dollars that will not only create jobs and help invigorate our community's economic base but will also enrich the quality-of-life for the people of the 10th district. I am glad that this vital funding was secured for the cities of Newark, Jersey City and Elizabeth."
