| Payne Announces $298 Million in Transportation Grants | |||
|
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne was pleased to announce that the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration awarded $298,703,208 to the New Jersey Transit Corporation under their Urbanized Area Formula Program. With the support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the New Jersey Transit Corporation will take on a myriad of state-wide transportation rehabilitation projects aimed at improving New Jerseyians ability to travel throughout the state as well as creating employment opportunities. Some of the projects that will be executed through this program include rehabilitation of the NJ Transit’s bus fleet, improvement of exterior pedestrian walkways and traffic circulation at Newark's Penn Station, and track repairs on NJ Transit’s Atlantic City, Montclair and Main lines. Payne said, "The massive injection of money due to the economic stimulus package will allow NJ Transit to make improvements to its track lines, fleet and other equipment and facilities. These enhancements will make traversing our cities easier, safer and more comfortable. Additionally, the job creation will be substantial not only for the 10th district but also for the entire state. I'm thrilled that economic stimulus funds were secured for these vital projects." ### |
