| Payne Praises Re-Launch of Recovery.Gov, New Anti-Fraud Initiative | |||
|
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne praised today's re-launch of Recovery.gov, the federal government's website that lets every American track the progress that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is making to invest in targeted projects that will create long-term growth in our economy. The re-launch of the updated site is also part of a new anti-fraud initiative that will root out instances of waste and abuse of Recovery funds. "The new Recovery.gov makes it even simpler for every resident of the Tenth District of New Jersey to track exactly how their tax dollars are being spent," said Payne. "This is another example of the unprecedented transparency and accountability that President Obama and Congress promised to the American people." The redesigned site is more user-friendly and features new graphs and interactive maps that make it easier to find detailed information about stimulus projects in your state, county and neighborhood. It also includes links to various social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace, to make Recovery Act information easily accessible and available to a broader audience. In conjunction with the site's re-launch, a new major anti-fraud initiative now makes it easy for citizens to report any waste or fraud associated with recovery funds to federal, state and local officials. Spearheaded by the federal Inspectors General that serve on the Recovery Board, these anti-fraud measures include a toll-free hotline and a form that can be submitted to report allegations of misconduct. "The American people are counting on us to make sure that the Recovery Act is effective in boosting our economy and saving and creating jobs," said Payne. "These anti-fraud measures will help us make sure that Americans are getting the most value out of every single dollar, and that our economy is moving in the right direction again." Beginning today, the toll-free Fraud Hotline (1-877-FWA-DESK) will be open from 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. (EST) seven days a week. Forms are available on Recovery.gov and can be submitted electronically on the website, by regular mail or by fax at another toll-free number, 1-877-FAX-FWA2. |
