|
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne today announced that the US Department of Justice has awarded a Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant to the township of Union, NJ. Through the COPS Secure Our Schools Program (SOS), the US Department of Justice has given $132,647 to the township. SOS grants are given to communities in order to assist with the procurement, enhancement or establishment of school safety equipment and/or programs. Each grant last for two years and can be used on such projects as installing security devices, training of personnel and students, and coordinating with local law enforcement. Representative Payne stated, "I was pleased to learn of the school safety grant awarded to the township of Union. Schools must be a safe environment where students are free to focus on learning. This grant allows Union to make improvements in our schools and keep our kids safe." ### |
