Washington, DC - Congressman Edolphus Towns, 10th District New York, issued the following statement on the passing of his good friend and colleague Julia Carson of Indiana:

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of a great lady who was a true warrior in the United States Congress, Julia Carson.  She represented the people of Indiana extremely well and sought equal opportunities for women for more than 35 years,” said Congressman Towns.

“I will always remember Julia for her tireless fight to get a Congressional Gold Medal for the mother of our civil rights movement Rosa Parks,” added Congressman Towns. 

“In this difficult time, my prayers and thoughts go out to Julia’s son as well as her many friends and relatives.”
