Representative Towns Holds Health Information Technology Forum during this Year's ALC

Washington, DC - Congressman Edolphus Towns, 10th Congressional District, New York, will hold the forum entitled "Health Information Technology and Reducing Health Disparities," on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 1:00pm in Room 140-A of the Washington Convention Center.

"Our society is moving towards technology, however, it seems that different aspects of the medical profession seem to be lagging," said Congressman Towns.  "I am hoping to take a look at the ways we can utilize technology to assist our doctors and make this field more time and cost efficient," added the Congressman.

The panel for this forum includes medical experts from the federal and state levels.  Among them:
• Dr. Garth Graham, MD, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services;
• Dr. P. Jon White, MD,  Health Information Technology Director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality;
• Aneesh Chopra, Secretary of Information Technology, Commonwealth of VA;
• Mat Kendall, Primary Care Information Project Director, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene;
• Greg Thornton, CEO, Competech Smart Card Solutions

This forum will also look at the issue of health disparities.  Most recently, Congressman Towns introduced legislation that would require companies to include more minorities in their clinical trials.
