Brooklyn, NY; May 8, 2006--Congressman Edolphus Towns (D-NY 10) will award the girls' basketball teams of Thomas Jefferson High School and the ENY Family Academy with Congressional Record honors at a public ceremony on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. The event will be held at Thomas Jefferson High School, 400 Pennsylvania Avenue (between Blake and Dumont Avenues), in Brooklyn, NY.

The two teams played each other for the title of City Champions in the PSAL B Division; Thomas Jefferson won the City title and ENY Family Academy is the Brooklyn Division VIII-B champ. Additionally, ENY Family Academy has an undefeated regular season for two years in a row.

"These young women are extraordinary champions," said Congressman Towns. "Through camaraderie, spirit, drive and determination, these teams have risen above negative elements in their environments to become champions and for that they should be saluted. They performed at an outstanding level and can serve as an example for their peers. All too often we're quick to point out the negative things that young people are involved in and in many cases we don't take the time to say 'a job well done' when young people do positive things. This ceremony will enable the community to stand up and acknowledge these fine athletes."

Thomas Jefferson High School officials will also raise their city championship banner in their gymnasium.
