CONGRESSMAN TOWNS URGES HEALTH AND HOSPITALS CORPORATION TO WORK WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO FIND SOLUTION TO LABOR ISSUE
Washington, DC--Congressman Ed Towns (D-NY), concerned about the impasse between the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and its nursing staff, expressed his concerns to Alan D. Aviles, Esq., Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.
In a letter to Mr. Aviles dated November 2, 2005, Congressman Towns stated the following:
I am writing to express my deep concern about the labor issue at New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) involving its nursing staff. My greatest concern is that we improve the conditions and compensation it affords these essential employees.
HHC is an integral part of the healthcare delivery system in New York, particularly for our residents who live in medically underserved areas. I recognize the limitations and budgetary constraints in which HHC must work. Nevertheless, it is my hope that the stakeholders in this issue move beyond their divisive boundaries and find solutions that ensure that patients receive the quality health care they deserve and the superior care that the City of New York is capable of delivering.
I encourage my friends at HHC to bring the New York State Nurses Association and other key stakeholders to the table to find an amicable solution for the benefit of all New Yorkers.
