RANGEL SUPPORTS MAY 1
IMMIGRATION PROTESTS

WASHINGTON - Congressman Charles Rangel praised the hundreds of thousands of people who came out across New York City and nation on Monday, May 1, to show their supports for fair and comprehensive immigration reform.

"It is great to see how people have mobilized around this issue," said Rangel. "Their actions have pressured Congress into looking at not just doing anything about immigration, but doing the RIGHT thing.

"A path to citizenship must be created for immigrants who, regardless of status, have earned it by their hard work and good behavior in pursuit of the American Dream."

Rangel also encouraged more activities to keep the pressure on Congress.

"This fight is far from over," said the veteran congressman. "We have to continue to build coalitions and get everyone -- citizens, immigrants and native-born Americans -- to come out and say 'No, we don't have to choose between security and fairness. Yes, we can have an immigration policy that keeps this land safe without turning our backs on our immigrant past.
