Congresswoman Jean Schmidt Announces 2009 Winners of the Congressional Art Competition

Cincinnati, OH -  Congresswoman Jean Schmidt tonight announced the winners from the 2nd Congressional District of the 27th Annual Congressional Art Competition. The competition is open to high school students, and the winner from each district will have their art work displayed for one year in the United States Capitol.

“These young artists are exceptional and inspiring,” said Congresswoman Schmidt. “Their talent and vision make it a difficult decision for our judges.”

This year’s competition was judged by three renowned local artists, Lonna Kingsbury, Deborah Ridgley, and Jennifer Rocklin. Schmidt acknowledged the difficult task the judges had with nearly 100 entries for this year’s competition.

The artwork submitted included paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art and photography. The first-place winner will have their art displayed in the United States Capitol as well as a $5,000.00 scholarship. Congresswoman Schmidt will display the second and third-place winners’ work in her district and Washington D.C. offices.
