WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren announced today a $599,355 federal education grant for Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. The “Financial Support for Talented Undergraduates in Mathematics and Computer Science” grant from the National Science Foundation will provide scholarships to low income rural students for mathematics and computer science. The award is scheduled to be finalized Sept. 15.
“This funding will give many Oklahoma students, who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity, a chance to receive a college education,” Boren said. “This is an important tool we can give students to prepare for a good job and a bright future. I look forward to working with President Williams and the NSU faculty on many more of these critical education initiatives.”
“We are obviously very excited to receive this grant and want to express our appreciation to Congressman Boren for his efforts and to the National Science Foundation for their confidence in our ability to deliver the access and high quality degree program that will turn their grant into an investment in the future of our students and the communities we serve” said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams.
“Dr. Rick Matzen’s commitment to NSU and to the success of his students is to be applauded and is another example of the outstanding people who make Northeastern State University Oklahoma’s Premier Regional University.”
