BOREN, BROUN ESTABLISH SECOND AMENDMENT TASK FORCE IN U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Dan Boren, (OK-2) was joined today by U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, (GA-10), in announcing the creation of the Second Amendment Task Force (SATF) in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Boren will serve as Democratic Co-Chairman, and Broun will serve as Republican Co-Chair during the 111th Congress.

The task force will be charged with monitoring legislation regarding the Second Amendment in the U.S. House during the 111th Congress.  It will act as a unified and proactive force to promote legislation that protects the Second Amendment and to fight legislation that poses a threat to citizens’ Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

“As a member of the National Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association and Co-Chair of the Congressional Sportsmen Caucus, I am proud to Co-Chair this task force with Congressman Broun and to take a leadership role on these important issues on behalf of my fellow Oklahoma gun-owners,” said Boren.

After conducting a thorough review of House Members’ voting records on Second Amendment issues, and working in close consultation with gun rights’ groups such as the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America, Boren and Broun carefully selected a core group of House Members who are “true believers” in the Constitutional right for American’s to bear arms.

“I am afraid we could witness a significant tilt to the left on gun issues in the current climate in Washington and that has me greatly concerned,” Boren said.  “I believe members of the Second Amendment Task Force will serve a critical role in preventing overreaching by those who would seek to enact anti-gun policies.”

The bipartisan task force includes a group of Members from a wide spectrum of backgrounds that represent a large geographical area:

Democrats
Hon. Dan Boren (Co-Chair)
Hon. Jason Altmire
Hon. Travis Childers
Hon. Brad Ellsworth
Hon. Jim Matheson
Hon. Mike McIntyre

Republicans
Hon. Paul Broun (Co-Chair)
Hon. Rep. Rob Bishop
Hon. John Boozman
Hon. Steve King
Hon. Steve Scalise
