PHILADELPHIA PA – Congressman Chaka Fattah releases the following statement received from Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, the Office of the Mayor of New York City, in response to Fattah’s leadership to repeal the so-called Tiahrt Amendment that restricts law enforcement’s access to crime gun trace data. Mayor Bloomberg is founder and co-chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and Congressman Fattah is a member of the Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns:
“I want to thank Representative Fattah for his announcement that he will seek to strike the gun trace data restrictions imposed by the Tiahrt Amendment in the key Appropriations subcommittee. I urge Representative Fattah’s colleagues to join him in this common sense effort to strike the restrictions that help criminals and tie the hands of law enforcement. I know that over 225 members of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns, 10 national police organizations, and more than 20 state police organizations who are fed up with the Tiahrt Amendment’s restrictions would appreciate it.” |
