“Reauthorization of the Farm Bill is an excellent opportunity to invest in American farmers, rural communities, low income families and the future health and prosperity of our nation.

“Extension of the Farm Bill offers significant improvements to the Food Stamp Program, 1890 land-grant institutions, and improved access to programs for socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, including language and funds to deal with unresolved claims from Pigford vs. Veneman. 

“Small farmers and low income families need our help therefore; I supported the Fairness amendment which provides the aid to ensure their financial sustainability.  In the end, I voted in favor of the underlying bill because, though imperfect, it does authorize increased funds for nutrition, environmental preservation and alternative fuels.”
