PHILADELPHIA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION APPLAUD MAYOR STREET'S WORK TO CUT AUTO INSURANCE RATES

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Chaka Fattah joined by Congressmen Robert Brady and Joe Hoeffel congratulated Philadelphia Mayor John Street for his successful fight in cutting auto insurance rates for Philadelphians.

Mayor Street’s tenacity to challenge insurance rates means that drivers will pay less for their auto insurance than they have in the past. This is the kind of leadership Philadelphia needs and her citizens deserve.”

Earlier this year, Mayor Street implemented a series of challenges to the insurance company rates calling them “high and unfair.”  He demanded Pennsylvania’s Insurance Department rollback the rates.  In a compromise move the state agreed to lower the rates and the mayor dropped the challenges.

Under the new agreement, the lower rates will apply to 70 percent of Philadelphia drivers and 48 percent of Pennsylvanians, who choose the “limited-tort” option that restricts their right to sue for pain and suffering.
