English Applauds LIHEAP Funding

Emergency Funding Will Help Pennsylvania Families and Seniors Pay for Heating Bills this Winter

Washington, D.C.  - Today, U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) applauded the administration’s decision to release $450 million in emergency Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding to help needy Americans pay for heating.

“At a time when the economy is showing signs of weakness and much of the country in a deep freeze, it is critical that low-income families and seniors have access to the resources they need to pay for their home heating,” English said. “This emergency funding will direct $44.3 million to Pennsylvania to help those especially hard hit by this latest cold front and ensure that no Pennsylvanian will have to choose between eating and heating this winter season.”

LIHEAP helps low-income households across the nation by providing money to help pay for heating and air conditioning costs.  English, a long-time champion of the LIHEAP program, sent a letter to the president earlier this week, urging the release of emergency funding to ensure that all states, including Pennsylvania, have adequate funding to pay for home heating bills this winter season.

Today, the Department of Health and Human Services released more than $44 million in emergency funding to Pennsylvania to assist families with their winter heating bills.
