Washington, D.C. - Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.R. 2764, the Omnibus Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2008. In response, U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) released the following statement:
“I’m reluctantly voting against this omnibus appropriation because it fails to provide timely funding for current operations in Iraq. As a consistent supporter of reducing the American troop presence in Iraq and an orderly change in our mission, I cannot in good conscience, vote for a political hay at the expense of predictable and consistent funding for our troops deployed overseas.”
H.R. 2764 included $31 billion in funding to support U.S. military troops in Afghanistan, but failed to include funding for troops stationed in Iraq.
