Pelosi Premium Taking its Toll on
Trucking Industry and Consumers

Further Emphasizing the Need to Increase Domestic Energy Production

Washington, DC – Congressman John Peterson, R-PA, the most outspoken Member of Congress advocating for increased production of domestic energy, released the following statement on the truckers rally at the nation’s Capitol:

“For the past year and four months, the House Democrat leadership has done absolutely nothing to reduce the price at the pump. Their unwillingness to address the energy crisis at its roots – supply and demand – will only further enhance the economic burden on every man, woman, and child in America.  The protest today, by blue collar, working class truckers, further emphasizes how out of touch the Democrat-controlled Congress is with the American people. While truckers voiced their concerns today, ill-fated Washington policy continues to adversely affect senior citizens, the middle class, and the working poor at the pump and in paying their home heating and cooling bills.

“Make no mistake; Washington Democrats share the blame for the record prices at the pump. While some point the finger at ‘Big Oil’ and ‘OPEC’ for the record energy prices, any well informed individual has to only evaluate the so-called ‘energy legislation’ that has been debated – half-heartedly I may add – to see who the real culprit is. The Democrat leadership has not allowed one piece of legislation that would increase domestic production of oil or natural gas to see the light of day on the House floor or in a subcommittee mark up.

“As truckers across America struggle to pay the Pelosi Premium, and diesel hits a national average of $4.14 per gallon, the economy, and working-class families continue to suffer. So today, I call on the Speaker to bring energy legislation to the House floor that would offer real relief at the pump for all Americans – by increasing access to American energy – and put a halt to the political games while acting in the best interest of the nation.”
