Shuster Announces Grant for the Blair County Airport

$675,000 Department of Transportation Grant will Increase Safety, Pave Way for Future Expansion

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Department of Transportation has awarded the Blair County Airport Authority a grant in the amount of $675,000 for safety improvements that will enhance passenger safety and pave the way for future expansion.

The airport will use the funds to purchase a replacement Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle, design a new taxi-lane for future hangar expansion and rehabilitation of the existing airport beacon.

“This grant is a boon to the economic growth of Blair County,” Shuster said. “Transportation infrastructure is a key element in bringing new business into the district.  A modern, first rate airport is one of the best examples of a thriving community and the Airport Authority has worked hard to create just that.”

“The Blair County Airport Authority deeply appreciates the continued support and dedications that Congressman Shuster provides to the Altoona-Blair County Airport and its traveling public through funding of safety related projects,” said Chuck Pillar, Airport Manager, and member of the Blair County Airport Authority.

“I congratulate Chuck Pillar and the other members of the Blair County Airport Authority for their tireless work to improve the airport and the community it serves,” Shuster added.
