Democrats Do What They Do Best: Raise Taxes

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster today expressed his outrage at the Democrat’s out of control fiscal year 2008 budget:

“I am amazed that the Democrats, who campaigned on a platform of fiscal responsibility, would have the audacity to propose a budget that not only fails to control spending, but forces the American taxpayer to foot the bill for their wish list of programs and projects,” Shuster said.

“The Democrats will argue that their budget increases every important federal program in existence.  I have no problem with improving the programs that work for the American people.  However, there is no such thing as a free lunch and you can’t increase spending without finding a way to pay for it.”

“Unfortunately, the Democrat’s answer to the problem is to put the federal budget before the family budget and levy a massive tax increase on all Americans.”

The Democrat’s budget amounts to the largest tax increase in American history – a tax increase of nearly $400 billion dollars over the next five years.

“Apparently, Speaker Pelosi thinks her victory in November gives her a license to take taxpayers’ hard earned dollars,” Shuster added.  “Instead of extending the tax relief that has grown our economy and created 7.5 million jobs in the last four years, the Democrat’s have chosen to put the focus on big government.”

The Democrat’s budget eliminates the 10 percent tax bracket, reinstates the marriage penalty, cuts the child tax credit, and resurrects the death tax.  Additionally, their budget does nothing to restrain spending that will soon eat up our entire budget.  The impact of the Democrat’s tax increase for Pennsylvania is startling. Taxes would increase, on average, $3,029.96 for Pennsylvania’s families.
