| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster released the following statement upon the release of the Democrat’s fiscal year 2008 budget:
“The Democrats campaigned for change in the last election, but I doubt the voters thought they meant the change in their pockets,” Shuster said.
“The Democrat’s budget for 2008 erases the 12 years of pro-growth, pro-family economic policies set in motion by the Republican Congress in favor of old-time big government tax and spend largess”.
The tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 combined with consistent pro-growth reforms in the way Congress regulates business have created one of the strongest economies in American history. Since 2003 alone, our strong economy has created over 7.5 million jobs, maintained historically low unemployment and encouraged record investment back into the economy. Under the Democrat’s budget, our record growth would come to a screeching halt.
“In 1,387 days, the tax cuts that have killed the death tax, created the 10 percent bracket, and eliminated the marriage penalty will expire. I have made it a point to publicly call for the new majority to extend these tax cuts. Unfortunately, the Democrats aren’t listening and their budget assumes that tax relief will expire.”
“What does this mean? It means the Democrats will usher in the biggest tax increase in American history – to the tune of $329 billion dollars.”
“Don’t think that these tax increases will be pointed at big corporations. They won’t. To cover the kind of spending their budget lays out, the Democrats will be coming for the middle class, and our small business owners who create the lion’s share of America’s jobs,” Shuster added.
“It looks like it’s only taken the Democrats 76 days in office to forget that it was just this type of big government spending spree that made them loose the majority the last time,” Shuster concluded.
