| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Central City Fire Department has received an important Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Program grant.
The Central City Fire Department has received a grant in the amount of $100,415. The grant will be used for turnout gear, additional breathing apparatus, portable radios and pagers, a thermal imaging camera, as well as new supply and attack hose line.
“The work our local fire companies do every day to safeguard our communities deserves recognition and support from the people they help,” Shuster said. “One important way to show our gratitude is to make sure our firefighters have the training and equipment they need to save lives and serve our communities safely.”
“These funds will allow the Central City Fire Department to continue to serve its community with equipment that they would not be able to purchase on their own. The DHS fire grant program continues to be the only source of federal funding to help our local fire companies,” Shuster added. “I am happy to see America’s tax dollars going back to help our communities in Somerset County.”
“We were pleased to qualify for this competitive grant which will allow us to provide the best protection possible for our firefighters and community. This also allows local donated monies to be used for other expenses such as building expenses, insurance and equipment maintenance. The department wishes to thank Representative Shuster for his letter of support during the grant process,” said Dale Russian, Fire Chief.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support the nation's firefighters and the services they deliver. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
